If I join the seminary
will I have to do a lot of praying

I kind of like the robes and libraries and maybe
Even the colorful churches and incense

My partner and I could take constitutionals across the lawns
and meditate and discuss divine mysteries
until very late

But will they force us to kneel from sunrise to noon
Reciting and blabbering til God takes a snooze

My prayers never used to exceed 5 minutes - usually less
If I pray for 5 hours, who's that gonna impress?
Not God!

I'll minister to the sick and the sad of heart
and hear confessions in the dark
But praying all day just sounds like a drag if I join the seminary

If I join the seminary
Will they assign my prayers to Christ
Whatever about Mary and Joseph and Magdalene and Judas

Or the purgatory souls burning to get out
Do they think Christ would get jealous and shout
I suppose that wouldn't do
but if I join the seminary
Don't look for me in the pew
