about

I'LL BE GOOD began with a wacky concept.

My idea was to write each song with multiple parts, and then slice and dice the songs so that a verse may appear on side one, a chorus on side two, and the ending toward the end, jumbled up with all the other songs doing the same thing. I still don't know if that idea would work, but it was obviously abandoned (except for the song "Abandoned"!) This is why the songs, even as they are, appear to have multiple chapters.

On this album I played my Gibson electric 12-string through my Carvin amp almost excusively, along with my new Casio keyboard / drum machine and my older Korg digital / analogue synth. Both these keyboards got a heavy workout, and most vocals were sung through the Carvin with a vocal mic.

This album features three major covers. John Gibson's FREE FALL was first quoted on RIVALRY INSANITY, and here gets a full version at something like 10 times the speed he intended. Don Campau's ON A DIG was also a favorite that I finally had fun covering, and Roberta Eklund's SHE FUCKED HITLER was a challenge in both arrangement and performance.

Newly uploaded in 2023 using a pristine chrome cassette from The Uncle Doug Collection.
