GOWER STREET is an album of firsts and lasts.

This was my first mass-duplicated cassette, and the first to move units of over 400.

It was also my LAST cassette, before SIMPLE CHANCE began the era of my music on CD.

The songs in GOWER STREET were written at a time when my interest in classical music and piano composition was at its highest… in fact, my piano teacher Scott Hiltzik (who also helped edit my initial sketches) even makes a short appearance.

I was also able to finally record a tribute to Frank Zappa’s UNCLE MEAT, one of my favorite compositions, as well as tip my hat to Leo Kottke, John Adams, and the JFK Conspiracy Theorists.

The Gower cassette was duplicated by Disc Makers in Dolby B, and the music did not translate to mass production very well, playing notably faster and thinner. Despite this, reviews were excellent across the board, and demand for the tape was high.

About 20 years ago I copied the 1/4” master digitally and created a few CDs. Unfortunately that backup session has vanished, leaving me with MP3 files that nonetheless still sounded better than the mass-produced cassette.

However, on Halloween of 2022 I stumbled upon an early 1:1 chrome cassette copied from the master that sounds as clean as the day it was made! All the tracks have been replaced with this new source.

I've also uploaded five outtakes or sketches from the Gower era.
