about

After several tapes making do with a Moog-like synth for a push-button beat, and one entire album using Casio drum patterns (MUTUAL ADMIRATION SOCIETY), along came DIMURO HOUSE, my first songs featuring Eric Scott on an actual drum kit.

Like many of my ideas, DIMURO HOUSE was supposed to be a much bigger deal: a double tape set featuring both songs and sound effects captured around the Gower house (these were recorded but never used). And as with many of my concepts, this one shrank so far down that the original cassette came to an abrupt halt halfway through side two.

However, nobody seemed to mind too much (less is more?) and this tape met with a lot of love and great reviews.

Stupid Family Stuff, the album opener, originally had vocals, but these were thrown out in order to feel the space between the drums, guitars, and my brand new Korg digital / analogue hybrid synthesizer. The Official DiMuro House Band begins in a way similar to Mutual Admiration Society's first vocal tracks, but apparently was different enough that nobody nailed me for it. I believe I was also borrowing a nice acoustic guitar from somebody before buying my Sigma for SNOUTBURGER.

Phantom Soil Romp also harkens back the style of MUTUAL with its drum machine and rapid patterns, before fading into a guest guitar solo by BB Russell of The Underpeople.

To Loosen The Tongue is performed by Dino and John Gibson (together known as BERTH) in his Ashland, Oregon studio with what appears to be a malfunctioning Noise Reduction Unit.

The Winter of My DiMuro House Years begins a tradition of composing in the style and instrumentation of Captain Beefheart; one of my favorite songs of this ilk.

80's-fashionable Phillip Glass next gets the tribute treatment before and after the Orly Song, another favorite among family and friends.

Bypass Mode brings us full circle with BB Russell playing acoustic lead, followed by the blink-and-you-miss-it conclusion of Maybe It Was Supposed To Be Music All Along.

For this release I have added an unused Orly Fanfare as a Bonus track, as well as the original lyrics version of Bypass Mode from a work cassette. Also added are two piano and synth sketches.
